Home Fund Hits Record $191,349

"I am still rubbing my eyes, " said Tim Hockett, OlyCAP's Executive Director.  "Saturday evening John Brewer, publisher and editor of the Peninsula Daily News, called me with the report.  We knew as far back as ten days ago that we would pass last year’s record of $135,168, but none of us was prepared for the shock of a $54,506 gain."

The Home Fund is OlyCAP's primary source of discretionary dollars to help folks in various emergency situations.  The fund helped about 1,500 families in 2006.  It has become so popular that OlyCAP staff simply cannot keep up.  OlyCAP is recruiting volunteers from the community to help manage and distribute the funds and using all divisions as avenues to provide assistance.

This year marked the 18th season of the local fund drive and a remarkable collaboration between the PDN and OlyCAP.  The drive raised raised more money this year than in the first eleven years combined.  Remarkably, in the last two years, the fund has more than doubled!  In its 18-year history, the Home Fund has raised nearly $820,000.  Said Hockett, "That’s worth about a million ‘thank you's.’ "
